In the last six months of a Honda lease, American Honda Finance lays out three paths: turn it in and lease another Honda, buy it, or simply return it. A leased Honda that isn't bought has to come back to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer, and only you or one of those dealers can buy it out, so Bud Clary Honda of Moses Lake can take the return, arrange a purchase or appraise it as a trade at 1200 S Pioneer Way.
These come from American Honda Finance's end-of-lease page. Your lease agreement sets your exact dates, allowance and fees.
| Choice | How it works | What it can cost |
|---|---|---|
| Turn it in and lease another Honda | Return the car to your Honda dealer and lease a new Honda or Acura. American Honda Finance says you may qualify for its loyalty benefits. | Wear beyond the waiver and miles beyond the allowance still apply. Lease or buy another new Honda or Acura within 30 days before or after turn-in and you may be eligible to have the turn-in fee waived, plus an extra wear waiver, with the total waived capped at $1,000 (Honda Loyalty Benefits). |
| Buy it | Get a purchase quote by logging in to your American Honda Finance account or calling its automated line, then pay online, by mail or at a Honda dealer. Want to finance the purchase through Honda Financial Services? AHFC sends you to a Honda dealer to check eligibility. | The purchase amount plus any sales tax. You then move the title and registration into your own name at a vehicle licensing office. |
| Return it | Book the inspection, then bring the car to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer by appointment and report the return to American Honda Finance. | A turn-in fee whose amount depends on your state, wear past the waiver, excess miles and any payments still due. End-of-term charges arrive on a later bill. |
This follows the timeline American Honda Finance publishes for a lease return.
Your lease covers ordinary wear, and a Honda lease includes a wear-and-use waiver. Damage past these lines may be charged. A credit card or a ruler is the measuring tool AHFC suggests.
| Area | Examples AHFC lists as chargeable |
|---|---|
| Scratches | Any scratch a fingernail catches, more than 2 on one panel, or any longer than 3 inches |
| Dings and dents | 4 or more dings on a panel, and any damage wider than 1.5 inches, which counts as a dent |
| Paint | Paint that is etched, stained or damaged by tree sap. Touch-up paint counts as unrepaired damage |
| Windshield and glass | Every crack, star and bullseye. Damage bigger than a dime means a new windshield; smaller than a dime is charged for a repair, one per windshield |
| Tires and wheels | Less than 4/32 inch of tread at the lowest point, or broken or bent wheels and rims |
| Interior | Burns, holes, stains or tears, and seats, carpets or mats that aren't clean and in good working condition |
| Lights and mirrors | Cracked or broken lenses, glass or mirrors |
From American Honda Finance's lease-end inspection guide, which says its list is not complete. Your Vehicle Inspection Report is the document that counts.
Honda's current advertised leases, which run through November 2, 2026, are written around 10,000 miles a year and make the lessee responsible for up to 20 cents a mile beyond that (Honda current offers). If your weekday drive runs between Moses Lake and one of these towns, here is roughly how many round trips that allowance covers.
| Town | Driving miles to our store, one way | Round trips in 10,000 miles |
|---|---|---|
| Ephrata | About 21 | About 240 |
| Othello | About 25 | About 200 |
| Quincy | About 40 | About 125 |
| Wenatchee | About 71 | About 70 |
Approximate driving distances to 1200 S Pioneer Way from OpenStreetMap routing, October 2026. A five-day round trip from Othello comes to around 12,500 miles over 250 workdays, before any weekend driving. Older leases may carry a different allowance or rate, and your own contract governs.
Get the two numbers that matter before you book a turn-in: the purchase quote in your American Honda Finance account, and our appraisal of the car. If the appraisal comes in above the purchase quote, that difference can work toward your next vehicle. If it doesn't, you'll at least know what returning the car is likely to cost compared with keeping it.
Leased your Honda somewhere else and live in the Basin now? American Honda Finance's rule is that an unpurchased lease goes back to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer, so call us before turn-in day and we'll talk through setting the appointment here.
Trade or sell
As an authorized Honda dealer we can buy a leased Honda from American Honda Finance. We'll appraise yours, buy it even if you don't buy from us, and handle the payoff with AHFC directly.
Stay with Honda
Moving into another new Honda or Acura within 30 days of turn-in is what AHFC's loyalty waivers are built around. A negotiable documentary service fee of up to $200 may be added to the sale price.
Go certified
AHFC's loyalty waivers name a new Honda or Acura, so run the turn-in costs before you switch to a certified used one.
Before inspection
Service is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with a free courtesy shuttle. AHFC's guide flags tread under 4/32 inch, so check yours a few months out.
Call our sales team to set up an appraisal or a turn-in time. Sales is open Monday through Saturday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Not directly through American Honda Finance. AHFC says lease purchases are only available to the lessee or an authorized Honda or Acura dealer. To sell it to a dealer, use a Honda or Acura store such as Bud Clary Honda of Moses Lake.
No. If you don't buy the car, American Honda Finance requires it to go back to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer. Make the appointment about a week ahead.
American Honda Finance calls it a turn-in fee, and the amount depends on your state, so check your lease contract. AHFC says loyal customers who buy or lease their next Honda may be eligible to have it waived.
You owe the per-mile charge in your agreement for every mile past the allowance, billed after the return. Honda's current advertised leases list up to 20 cents a mile over 10,000 miles a year, but your own contract sets your numbers.
A licensed inspection company looks at scratches, dents, paint, glass, tires and wheels, the interior and lights, then gives you a Vehicle Inspection Report. Scheduling it is free.
Get a purchase quote from your AHFC account or its automated line, let the Lease Maturity Center know you plan to buy, and pay online, by mail or at a Honda dealer. Our finance office can look into financing the purchase with you.
